As an extroverted accountant, people often look at me funny and ask, “Marit, why taxes of all things!!?” And honestly, there have been plenty of days I’ve asked myself the same question.
I’ve always been the outgoing one, the person who genuinely loves connecting with people, teaching them, and watching them light up when things finally click. The problem is… most clients don’t wake up excited to talk about deductions, entity structure, or estimated payments. And for years as I sat across the table from business owners who just wanted the return done and the pain over with I found myself feeling more unfulfilled and overworked than ever. Eventually I was even seriously considering walking away from the profession altogether and starting something new.
Then something shifted. And that something was ME.
I began to attract clients who actually wanted to understand their numbers, who asked questions, wanted strategy, and were willing to pay for real guidance. At the same time, I kept meeting brilliant female tax pros and bookkeepers who were stuck in the exact same place I had been: drowning in compliance work, undercharging, burning out, and dreaming of a bigger, calmer, more lucrative practice.
I realized the real gap was between the old-school, hourly, burnout model most of us were taught and the modern, profitable, freedom-first advisory firms so many women secretly want to build.
I’ve lived both sides. I’ve done the $150 tax returns that took ten hours and answered endless “quick questions” for free. I’ve also scaled Flair Financial to multi six figures while raising three little girls and running everything on systems that are still works-in-progress to this day.
Now I get to do what I was born to do in two ways:
Run Flair Financial, where we serve influencers, creators, and businesses of all kinds with high-level tax strategy and advisory services.
Step on stages and into rooms full of tax professionals and bookkeepers to wake them up to what’s possible, to teach the mindset shifts, pricing strategies, and client-boundary frameworks that changed everything for me, and to lead the Flair Advisory Academy where a small group of women build those firms together every year.
